Okay, so 2017 was such a fun year! I’m usually so ready for the clean slate of a new year, but I’m kinda sad to see these last twelve months go. Before I jump into my 2018 goals (they are hefty), I want to make sure I reflect on 2017’s best moments. I’ve privately evaluated the not-so-great moments (we all have them) to see what Jordan and I can learn. But in the spirit of positivity, here are our 2017 Top Ten:
Trip to Boston
Jordan has been a die-hard Red Sox fan since 2002, and I was determined to get him to Fenway before his 25th Birthday. When we got married, I officially switched from the Cubs to the Red Sox, but this trip really sealed the deal for me. I’m in. Anyway, we flew out to Boston in August for a long weekend. We fell in love with the city, but most importantly – FENWAY. That place is out of this world, no matter who you’re cheering for.
Jordan’s MBA Acceptance
You probably couldn’t pay me to go back to school, which is why I’m so glad my husband actually wants to – ha! Jordan applied to be in the MBA Program at the University of Illinois. He applied in July, and we were heavy with anticipation immediately. One afternoon in September Jordan called me at 4:15 and asked if I had left for my run yet. Odd. I told him I hadn’t, so he asked me not to, but couldn’t explain why. I was so anxious about what was happening, I actually had to lay on the floor until he got home.
He walked straight to the fridge, and that’s when I knew – he got in! We always have a bottle of Champagne chilling in the fridge (you never know when you’ll need to celebrate), and his MBA acceptance was exactly the bottle-popping occasion we were waiting for. We are so grateful for this, and excited to see what opportunities it will open for our future. Jordan starts classes in January!
Weekends in Champaign with Friends
We absolutely love living in Champaign, but before we even moved here we prayed that God would provide us with friends to enjoy our new home with. Some of our favorite memories from 2017 have been spending the weekends grabbing dinner and drinks with our friends David and Olivia. We are so grateful for their friendship and we always have the best time. I’m looking forward to many more Champaign Weekends in 2018.
Family Vacation in Mexico
2017 actually started during my first official Davis Family Vacation (Caribbean Cruise), but in August we all went to Mexico and it was the most amazing eight days. There are very few things I love more than an all-inclusive beach vacation, especially with my favorite brothers, the best mother- and father-in-law, and one hot husband. We enjoyed so much delicious food, a spa day, jet skiing on the ocean, and more laughter than the rest of the year combined. That is a week I will treasure forever.
My hands-down favorite moment of the year happened during this trip, but it’s not to be spoken of ;)
Moving into a New Apartment
When we moved to Champaign we decided to rent a two-bedroom with an attached garage. Our apartment was huge, and although we loved it, we realized that we could save a lot of money by living just a little smaller. On Turkey Festival Weekend the two of us moved our entire apartment down one flight of stairs and across the hall. It was EXHAUSTING, but we are so glad we made this change. We already miss our attached garage, but the smaller space has allowed us to get rid of things we don’t need and I love living in that freedom. Living on the ground floor has also made taking Lincoln out so, so much easier. However, we will never again move during Turkey Festival weekend because it goes so much faster when your family can help, haha.
The 2016 Holidays took it out of me (like, I for real almost lost it) so I was a hermit during the months of January, February, and even most of March. On January 14th the weather was forecasted to be really icy. We decided to really own that weather report and did not leave our house. It was obviously a pretty great day, because it made it into our top ten of the year! I made pancakes and coffee, and there was a lot of reading and board games and movies and loves. Ugh, can that be every day?
Lincoln’s First Birthday
As you well know, we are unapologetically in love with our precious Lincoln. His first birthday was in April and we went all out, as obsessed dog-parents do. I honestly can’t think of a reason that would justify not having a dog in your life – they are the best! We’re beyond grateful for Lincoln’s love, so celebrating his birthday big was a no-brainer. We had special dog cookies, decorated the house, and opened lots of exciting presents. He could not have cared less. It makes me so sad to think about birthday number two being right around the corner.
For the second year in a row, we did not miss a single Illinois Football game this year. We love watching the Fighting Illini, and are so committed to being dedicated fans while we live in Champaign. Rain or shine or snow, we cheered our Illini on to the end of every game. It’s such a fun experience to share with each other and the rest of Illini Nation. We’re hoping for a better record in 2018, but we’ll still cheer them on either way.
We celebrated our second wedding anniversary in June. Have I mentioned that marriage is my favorite part of life? I know a lot of people talk about how challenging marriage is, and it has its moments as all things do, but why aren’t we talking about how incredible it is?! Let me be the first to shout it from the mountain tops that being married is all the things! I wrote a tribute to year two here.
In March, we celebrated my promotion with my company, Momentum. Promotions are always very exciting, and I loved celebrating with Champagne at Destihl. The promotion came with a lot more responsibility, and I have certainly felt the weight of that. However, I do love my job and am grateful to work from home for a company who cares about their employees a lot.
I’m so ready for 2018. We have some exciting travel plans set, Jordan is starting school, and I’m planning to accomplish some pretty big goals. To God be ALL of the Glory.
