It’s ironic that I feel so compelled to share this post with you this month. My day job has demanded all of my time and attention for the last several weeks and the rest of my life has taken a back seat – including my blog and all of my goals. Things are starting to slow down at work and I remind myself to be grateful for the seasons of life. One thing that has kept me sane during this busy season are my PowerSheets and I have to tell you about them.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram see my PowerSheets all the time, and several of you have asked for this post! A year ago I purchased my first set of PowerSheets from Cultivate What Matters and they have honestly, truly changed my life. In so many ways, PowerSheets help me to live intentionally and within my means. I have less than two weeks to convince you why you need them in your life so that you can snag yours when they launch on October 25th, but it shouldn’t take but a moment.
First, let me tell you about the creator of this incredible tool – Lara Casey. Two years ago, I purchased Lara’s first book Make It Happen. My entrepreneurial spirit was begging to be fed and I purchased her book in a moment of desperation. I soon realized that choice was no coincidence, rather divine intervention. Make it Happen changed my perspective on so much more than my business goals. I quickly became a “follower” of all things Lara Casey, including her business Make it Happen – which later became the Cultivate What Matters Shop.
Enter the reason we’re all here, PowerSheets. Lara created these as a tool to help her set good goals and live a more intentional life. Lara and her team were talking about these PowerSheets on Instagram all the time, and I became curious. I’ve always loved making lists, and several times in our humble two years of marriage Jordan has been held captive on the couch while we goal plan with poster board and sharpies. It’s safe to say that the PowerSheets were calling out to me – much like the wedding gifts were calling out to Monica in “The One With the Red Sweater”.
The star of the PowerSheets show is the monthly tending list, but there is a lot of prep-work at the beginning of each month, and season, to make sure that what you’re focusing on is what matters the most. This portion of the PowerSheets asks you a lot of questions that force you to question your goals – in a good way. An example would be, what has been weighing on your mind? This part of the PowerSheets asks you to face the good, the bad and the ugly. it can be hard but it is so important! Crucial, in fact.
Once you get through the hard questions, you’ll arrive at the tending list. My tending list is my North Star – is that too cheesy? Your tending list is a tactical way to track your monthly, weekly and daily goals. My tending list is always, always on our kitchen counter. When people come over I cover it up or put it away because there are obviously some private goals, but it’s always within reach. I even travel with it. The tending list on its own is, just a list, but the PowerSheets as a whole guide you to cultivating an intentional life by setting good goals. Not goals that you can’t reach, or that will leave you feeling empty.
I’d like to give you a glimpse into my own tending list, but just a glimpse ;) Here is what (most of) September looked like:
- Read Mere Christianity
- Read China Rich Girlfriend
- Post Two Blog Posts
- Map Out Capsule Wardrobes
- Family Pictures
- Order Boston Book
- File Images
- Sell or Donate One Item
- Media Free Mondays
- Prayer + Devotion
- Run, Arms + Abs
- Love Jordan Well
- Rise at 6:30am
That may look like just a to-do list, and essentially it is. But as Lara always says, good things grow over time. These little things add up and help me make progress on my big ten every single day. For example, one of my goals in 2017 has been to read more. Every single month I have listed two books on my monthly goals and by the end of the year I will have read more than 24 books – that’s incredible!
PowerSheets have so much depth to them and I could talk for hours about their meaning and purpose. Ultimately, if you are someone who has a laundry list of things you want to do or be, but you can’t seem to get there, the PowerSheets are for you. Make the investment and watch them change the way you think and operate. Lara has a powerful testimony, and I look up to her as a woman of faith, but you do not have to be a believer to use the PowerSheets because they are not spiritually based. You don’t have to be a lover of color, either, but just know that the PowerSheets are very colorful for a very important reason.
Follow Cultivate What Matters on Instagram so that you can be prepared for the big launch on October 25. I use the twelve-month, dated version, but you can also purchase a six-month, undated version if you’re not sure how well you’ll like them. Please, if you have more questions or want to know more specifics about how I use this incredible tool in my life – email me! Or comment below. I’d absolutely love to chat. And be sure to let me know if you become a PowerSheet user.
